BIG DANCE 2008 5th-13th July 2008 What is Big Dance? www.visitlondon.com/bigdance Big Dance 2008, the most energetic event in London this year! Between 5 and 13 July, Londoners and visitors alike are encouraged to watch and take part in thousands of dance events taking place across the capital.
‘NEWINGTON DANCE SPACE GETS STOKE NEWINGTON DANCING!’
A week of dance workshops and performances across Stoke Newington will be exploring a variety of dance styles such as Contemporary Dance, Ballet, Tap, Musical, Street Dance, Fusion Theatre, Tango, and more! We are recruiting schools, youth clubs, as many groups as possible, and their friends and families to take part in a week of free classes, competitions and performances. This will be a fantastic opportunity to work with us on the amazing project of getting everyone to don their dancing shoes for one week! EVENTS 1. Showcase: Dance Students and emerging choreographers Date: Saturday 12th July 2008; 6-9pm Description: young talented students and emerging choreographers from all over London will be presenting their dance pieces. The night will be accompanied with drinks and biscuits and discussions and feedback section of the work.
2. Intergenerational Dance Date: rehearse your piece at your regular class, perform on Sunday 13th July Ages 0-99 welcome! Appeal to all of you taking part in our classes! Please be ready to work with your teacher and prepare your routine on a selected music. Our aim is to connect everyone in one dance: from toddlers, babies to mums, dads, friends, families, grandparents and whoever is interested. Final piece will be presented at Newington Dance Space on Sunday 13th July during our Big Dance Day for everyone.
3. Children’s Cafe Performances Date: 9th, 10th and 11th July – starting at 5 pm Venue: That Place on the Corner (cafe) -a lovely children’s venue at Newington Green Description: Children from Newington Youth Dance Company will be presenting the results of their efforts through the year – lots of fun involved!
4. Children’s Dance Competition Date: 13th July 2008 10am-1pm Description: Children, Schools and Community Groups from Stoke Newington will submit dance performances to be shared at NDS. The winner will be given the opportunity to record their performance on a professional dance video. The competition will be accompanied by mini-performances by professional dancers. All styles of dance welcome.
5. Free children’s dance lessons/after school workshops/lessons collaboration Date: The whole Big Dance week. Description: Opportunity for children to explore different styles of dance in the form of free taster sessions.
6. Free adults dance lessons Date: The whole Big Dance week Opportunity for adults to explore different styles of dance in the form of free taster sessions. |
